Sheridan Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 We're using Ruckus wireless with Radius (NPS on Server 2012) for our laptops and ipads - all works fine. However a brand new macbook pro will not connect, using the same credentials and setup as the ipads. It simply sit there 'authenticating' and the ruckus zonedirector logs the 'fails authentication' message repeatedly. I'm using to apple breaking things that work, but this is a new one. Is anyone else using osx 10.10 with 802.1x authentication for their wifi?
Michael Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 There are known issues with OSX 10.10 and 10.10.1 - version 10.10.2 should be released very soon and is supposed to resolve wireless issues further. 1

Michael Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Not so sure about that - I thought all major companies adhered to standards set by the wi-fi alliance. It's in everyone's interest, seeing as there are thousands of wireless adapters and routers etc... I think this is clearly a software bug, seeing as Mavericks worked fine on the same hardware, whereas Yosemite sometimes doesn't. I'm fairly optimistic that Apple will fix it bearing in mind the 10.10.2 update has been in beta for quite some time and is primarily focused on wireless connectivity.
Sheridan Posted January 26, 2015 Author Posted January 26, 2015 Its annoying for me, I've got a stash of ipads that I know will work fine with our wireless, but a macbook that doesn't. I need to use the configurator on the macbook to deploy the ipads so I'll have to use the wired network to get the macbook connected! In all honesty I'm starting to think ipads in education are a gimmick.
Michael Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 I agree, iPads generally are pretty good at connecting with full 2.4GHz/5GHz wireless N connectivity, with the latest Air 2's now supporting 2.4GHz/5GHz up to wireless AC. I have more issues with iOS updates, but Apple (finally) have stayed with iOS8.1.2 for some time now which does help.
