MacBook no sound in XP

We recently invested in some MacBook 13inch 2.0Ghz for our Media Studies course, we have also installed XP onto them.

 

For some reason the sound in XP doesn't work, we get the intial logon sound but then thats it, all the drivers BootCamp drivers installed fine on the XP side, when we click on the sound icon in bottom corner and try advanced, we get "DirectSound settings not available".

 

Any ideas?

I would recommend trying to reinstall the drivers if you have any XP compatible driver don’t rely on the driver built on to XP if that is what you are using

Remove the driver in device manager then re-install the driver. I had this issue sometimes on a 17" iMac. Seems to resolve the problem each time.

Did they come with leopard on them?

In device manager one of the PCI devices will have the dreaded Yellow exclamation mark. Go to the properties of this and update driver - select automatically, it will then find new audio devices etc etc

@ pooley : there are no yellow exclamtion marks in device manager, thats what is weird, everything seems to be ok, I mean the sound works when you log in then nothing.

What version of Boot camp did you use?

I used 1.3. I never upgraded to 1.4 so cannot confirm if any problem exist.

I am looking at my Macbook's configuration now.

Do you see the SigmaTel Audio CODEC listed under device manager?

Not tried dxdiag, but yeah it shows in Device Manager as SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC

If i recall correctly i removed the SigmaTel Codec and then re-installed the driver from the CD by running the SigmaTel.exe

When trying directx tool I get an "error : problem getting extra sound info, result code = 0x80004005 (generic failure)"

You bought more than one macbook. Do they all have the same problem?

 

I have just been reading about and see a few more people with a problem with sound.Can someone confirm that theirs works with either 1.4 or even 2.0.

 

Can i upload the 1.3 driver to this forum?

Cheers for the file, I will give it a try tomorrow, yeah we bought a suite of 30.

 

If it was just one then I could put it down to a hardware fault but its all of them that have the same sound problem.

Gave the file a try just now instead, and it says wrong audio detected.

 

Am giving it up now, they can live without sound for the time being.
