Setting up VLANs on HP 1810-48G

Hi all,

 

We have a HP 1810-48G switch as a core switch which is connected to a Cisco router which has been configured with two VLANs.

I'm pretty new to VLANs but when I have previously set them up I have set up the VLANs and then configured the subinterface address/gateway for said VLANs.

However on this switch it allows me to create the VLAN IDs with no further configuration. Am I missing something obvious, how do I setup this switch correctly.

The 1800s are only layer 2, they can't do any routing so no VLAN interface addresses. All you can do is create vlans and then assign the correct PVID and VLAN for a port that you want in the VLAN.

Thanks, so I can use the switch on the edge but will need to get a layer 3 core switch.
