Moodle configuration guide?

Hey,

 

I have set up moodle on the technical side but now I have to configure it so it looks pretty and is functional. I did a bit of googling regarding the themes and so on but I couldn't find a decent guide. Can anyone provide good links?

I'm assuming you're a school/academy.

 

Themes? Well, you can take your pick but I'd always suggest choose a responsive theme so Moodle can be used with tablets, etc.

 

Configuration? Big area to cover so I'll stick with your potential user needs. You'll need to understand the skills of your teachers and then configure resource and activity types to the ones that match your teachers skills. Then as the skills base grows you can add in additional resource and activity types and provide the training to go along with them. Usually, I suggest that things like labels, pages, links, etc. all the basic stuff are available. As far as activities are concerned don't make everything available because it will be too confusing at first so stick with maybe assignments and quizzes.

 

Whatever you choose make sure it fits with your teacher's skills and school needs.

 

I assume you've been to Moodle.org and checked out the documentation for your version.

I would start by looking at the 'More' theme that is already built into Moodle and then using the Custom CSS options in-site to further customise as you can get some good mileage here (I'm assuming as you are looking at theming yourself you know your way around CSS). This is especially useful if you are just looking to bring Moodle on-theme rather than overhaul the entire thing. Moodle themes also work on a hierarchy system, so if you find a base you like you can easily extent it to suit you needs with minimal development. Edited February 2, 2015 by mrverrall
