Password not saving in Credential Manager Office 365

Hi,

 

We are trying to migrate our Mailboxes to our Office 365 Environment, we have successfully been able to do this, and when we log onto our Domain with a User that has had their account Migrated, when you open Outlook 2013 the Wizard Finds the Account on Office 365, it asks for your Credentials, when you put these in and select Remember my Credentials it opens fine and all the emails are there,

 

NOW the issue is that when we log off and on to either the same or a different computer and open Outlook, it asks for the Credentials again! Even after selecting remember, I have noticed that when you select remember, it puts the credentials in Credential Manager within Control Panel, however when login off and on these Credentials are not saving, I have even tried adding a random Test Generic Credential and this is not roaming either,

 

So I think I have narrowed down the issue, but cannot figure out why it is happening, we have our GPO set correctly to allow passwords to be stored, any ideas anyone?

Your not using man profiles? Do you have any settings configured in group policy, computer, admit templates, system, user profiles. Like clear cached profiles. Any startup scripts doing anything.

 

Have you run group policy results for that user on a pc. This will tell you what going on.

 

I suspect it's gp doing something with profiles.

Same thing happens here. Not got to bottom of it yet. Seems random on who it works for and who it doesn't.

The directory the credentials are stored in are not typically roamed but I managed to get it working here by tweaking the roaming profile exclusions.

Well Thanks for all of your Comments, Good and Bad news Really, the Good News is I have a Work Around the bad News is that it is a little bit Rubbish!

 

I found out that when you log in the Credentials go into the Local App Data Folder %USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Credentials,

 

I did have a Group Policy which was set to Exclude the %USERNAME%\AppData\ROAMING\Microsoft\Credentials, So I have removed this now,

 

I tried to Copy the Files from the Local Credential Folder to Roaming Credentials, this did write back to the server and Download again, HOWEVER Outlook only checks the Local Credentials folder,

 

So now I have a Logoff and Logon Script which copies these files:

 

LOGOFF

xcopy %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Credentials %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Credentials\ /H /Y

 

rmdir I:\MSCRM /S /Q

xcopy %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\MSCRM I:\MSCRM /H /Y /I /E

 

LOGON

xcopy %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Credentials %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Credentials\ /H /Y

 

xcopy I:\MSCRM %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\MSCRM /H /Y /I /E

 

Have this set in Group Policy running from Net Logon, so far it has worked every time, but I am not happy with this Fix, I have a Call logged with Microsoft, so will post if I find out more!

Thats not what we are seeing here the credentials are saving to %USERNAME%\AppData\ROAMING\Microsoft\Credentials and are roaming if the exception is removed!!

Hi Tallwood,

 

I found that if I added a Generic Credential Manually in Credential Manager, those Credentials do Roam, it is literally the Outlook Office 365 Credentials that a being placed in the Local Credentials Folder, but if you are 100% sure it is Roaming your Office 365 Credentials that is interesting,

You've made me doubt myself but I've just tested again and yes they are going into AppData\ROAMING\Microsoft\Credentials and do roam with the user, no logon and logoff scripts required.

Well that is create news that it can work, I just need to find out why it is not working for me now :-P

 

I can confirm that the Roaming Credentials folder is being uploaded and downloaded fine at Log on, I think the issue now is more to do with Outlook not looking at the Roaming Credentials folders, as I said previously, when I enter the Credentials when I open Outlook, I can clearly see it creating a system file in Local Credentials & not Roaming

I have found it not hugely reliable though I sat in a room with staff the other day doing some training and about a 3rd got the prompt again. Microsoft really need a more elegant means of roaming these details.

This does sound rather random! Have you checked the Users folder on the Machines to see if there are in Stuck Profiles potentially? I found that on one computer that I was never asked Credentials on (Before I set up the Scripts) That everytime I logged off and on, I never got asked for a Password, and it turned the Roaming Profile was stuck on the computer

I cant replicate the issue myself so I think it must be PC related, I'm not to worried though as most are happy typing in a password every now and again if it doesn't work.
