TheRobins Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Ive got one of those, it wont go away issues I cannot seem to solve. I have have a random recurring issues with students shared drives not mapping. A pupil will logon, everything maps correctly, printers, 3 other shared drives, All apart from their Profile Drive. This on my network is set as N: This only happens randomly. That pupil can move to another machine, and the issue goes away. If you restart the PC and log back in on that machine its still the same. However If I get another pupil to log into that machine it does not become an issue. I have been through all off the usual "first step" diagnosis. I have ruled out permissions, also my redirection policy is set to Microsoft Standards. All machines are set to wait for network. One of the other mapped drives they have access to is on the same server and does not get effected. The machine continues with network access as normal, and its connected to a new HP1910 switch with 2GB Trunk link to the core. Event viewer only shows 1 error which is attached below. Machine is windows 7 64bit, latest updates and the fileserver is windows server 2008R2 with latest updates. Come to a stumbling block now, its not a major issue that it effects everyone, but can be disruptive if 1 or 2 pupils a lesson cannot access their network share and have to move PC's If anyone has any tips, it could do with them?
SInglis Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Hi TheRobins, We are having exactly the same issue, we have looked at this before and gave up. Using the re imaging of a machine as a solution to temporarily cure the problem. However I have come across this from Microsoft today after having five more users/machines with issue. To make matters worse for us we have offline (Sync Centre) starting up on some machines making the whole thing a lot worse. Take a look at the following and let me know what you think. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2610379 Kind Regards
TheRobins Posted June 26, 2015 Author Posted June 26, 2015 Opppss This was a while ago. Anyway, discovered what the cause was. It was a group policy issues. I hadn't noticed but there was an option ticked to delete profiles if they have not been used in X. However this policy is know to have issues especially with security. The issues only occurred when that pupil logged onto that machine and their profile had previously been deleted. I didn't really have the time to drill down why and decided that my re-imaging programme was much easier. Removed that policy, re-imaged and no issues since. Thankfully...
SInglis Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 Thanks for getting back to me. I have just downloaded the hot fixes etc, I have also spoken to a colleague. Guess what policy we have just start using..... Delete Profiles if they have not been used in x Days. I think you may have solved our issue. :-)
TheRobins Posted June 26, 2015 Author Posted June 26, 2015 Ohh yes I would steer clear if I was you. If you really need to delete profiles I would use this https://helgeklein.com/free-tools/delprof2-user-profile-deletion-tool/ Its the best of a bad job With some simple batch scripting you can run it remotely on all machines. Hopefully that solves your issue, although I did have to re-image all machines that had this policy applied.
