MattDLEA Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 I like the idea of spiceworks. But on both my installs it doesnt look like its fining everything and generally doesnt look like its working fully. Does anyone have the same problem or did it work out of the box, or did you have to do lots of fiddling to get it working
dry Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 We mainly use it for the helpdesk side of things, with the inventory/network scanning a bonus. I think our Spiceworks installation has never successfully completed an entire network scan!
scotyboy56 Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 I just use it for the helpdesk, I tried to do the inventory for it, and I gave up straight away tbh
MattDLEA Posted January 12, 2015 Author Posted January 12, 2015 Phew I thought it was me been simple. The inventory thing never worked for me then reported loads of DNS error's which im sure there isnt ( or at least not that many) Had a quick stab at using it for helpdesk but it seams really clunky

Once you've set up a custom fault form and made it easy for your *ahem* IT-literate *ahem* end users to access, it's pretty much plain sailing we've found.

We did use it for the inventory/ purchase tracking but in the got fed up with the slowness and unreliability of the scans and went with a in house designed Access Database instead - - - Updated - - - I like the idea of spiceworks. Arreks Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 The inventory system isn't really worth using if you have more than around 100 devices - Spiceworks has a habit of throwing tantrums! I use it for the helpdesk which syncs with AD and it all runs perfectly, for the inventory/asset management it's better to use a 3rd party one.
