Windows 10 on Domain - Service Issue

I've just done a brand new Windows 10 Install of the technical Preview edition.

I renamed and added onto the domain which is 2012 R2 AD.

I then tried to install Office 2013 but came up with an error "'Error 1920. Service 'Windows Font Cache Service' (FontCache) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services.'

I tried to manually start the service and it also failed.

 

I then did another clean install of Windows 10 and check the service in services.msc - the service was started and managed to restart the service so know its working ok.

 

I then renamed and added to the domain. After doing this is appears that although the Windows Font Cache Service is still set to Automatic but it won't start event trying to do it manually.

 

Can anyone else replicate this issue and advise if there is a solution?

 

I've tried the google suggestions of removing the font cache so it can rebuild but no matter what, once the windows 10 machine is on the domain the Windows Font Cache service will not start.

What account are you using within the service to start automatically? Try a domain admin account then if not try an enterprise admin account. Or just the builtin administrator account for the domain you have joined.

It's set to use the 'Local Service' Account.

 

If i try to use a local admin account and try to start the service you get:

Error 1079: the account specified for this service is different from the account specified other services running in the same process'

there are no dependencies on the service.

 

Just seems strange the service is fine until the PC is added to the domain. Even if you then log on with the local admin account the service won't start.

I was thinking of just trying to use the domain admin not the local admin account on it possibly using the domai admin account for any service thats related just to see if that helps track what is happening. Id check through all the event logs as well

Tried that too but didn't work.

I have been into the event viewer, enabled debug logging, try to restart the service.

In the event log the error shows but just says 'An error occurred in the FontCache service.'

Yes...only one I haven't yet tried is the last one with the registry.

Shouldn't be necessary and hopefully something they'll fix in the final release.

That may well be a bug in the build you are using, I would expect that's the case.
