We evaluated the ThinkPad X131e, but found it clunky and overpriced for the specifications. I see it's now been replaced by the ThinkPad 11e, which has a much nicer looking touchpad. But $600 for a Celeron and a mechanical drive?

I came across the HP Stream 11, which has favorable reviews and can be had from Microsoft's education store for a mere $179. The small SSD works for us because we will be using Deep Freeze. However, it's a consumer device with potentially no support for PXE and other important things.

Buy one! At that price there's not much to lose. When I started, I was handed a quote for some small laptops for our infant (age 3-7) kids at £600 each. I sourced some consumer netbooks at £200 each. They're not as good, and after 4 years a bit sad, but in the mean time we've had three times as many devices in the classroom.
