mattasquith Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 Hi everyone I'm currently doing some market research into the connectivity speeds that are provided within student halls of residence. I'm just focusing on off-campus at the moment as I know there will be huge connections within on-campus accommodation. If there's anybody who provides connections to student flats or any such like, it would be great if you could help me. I just need you to answer the following 3 questions: 1. How many students do you supply with internet? (This can be an average across sites if you have multiple sites) 2. Do you provide tiers of access? 3. What size connection do you have? Any information would be appreciated. You can answer anonymously if you wish. Thanks in advance.
Oaktech Posted January 5, 2015 Posted January 5, 2015 My last place had two student residences, each with around 30 students each. Both of them were served by standard domestic connections, albeit FTTC so about 60mbps, supplied by Sky. I turned off the wireless in the routers and installed a pair of Ubiqiti Unifi - one on each floor, and just let them get on with it. Both places had the Sky supplied parental filtering turned on, but I was looking into sophos UTM gateways for them before I left. 1
