Does anyone know of a PC application that is like a note pad that floats over another application (such as word) so that you can draft ideas on it while being able to type in word without having a split screen or minimising the other app?

Or you could just use alt-tab with notepad or the comment things within the Office app (they look a bit like post-its!)... come to think of it, I think Post-It did an app at one point... http://www.3m.com/us/office/postit/digital/index.html ... alas it aint free but I'm sure somebody else haws made something similar.

Microsoft OneNote is great for this, but of course it's not free. I use it all the time for note taking and you can set it to remain on top. I got a copy free with my Toshiba laptop and I'd hate to lose it.

That's one thing I hate when using Windows, in Linux you can keep a 'window' to the front so that it never drops behind, it would make life easier for me when using 2k if it had this function!!
