Wildcard SSl

We are looking at a Wildcard SSL (HAP+, Remote App etc) for our '.sch.uk' domain.

 

 

However our actual AD domain is '.local', if we bought a wildcard SSL for our '.sch.uk' would this still protect the webserver etc which is on the '.local'.

 

Also any companies that you might recommend?

Our external domain name is .co.uk and internal is .local. We use the .co.uk cert for HAP and it works perfectly.

Excellent, I thought this would be the case just wanted to double check.

It would be better to use DNS and put any address you access internally on an external address, it won't go out but will mean the certificate will work. Otherwise you will get certificate errors, which you can advise users about but isn't best practice to get users to ignore certificate warnings!

 

We bought an AlphaSSL cert from Hydrogen Internet, who were called ProntoSSL when they were recommended on here. I recommend buying 3 years as you can currently buy 5 years but because of changes happening next year if something goes wrong you will have to rebuy rather than get a reissue. Can't remember the details sorry.
