Lord of the Rings Strategy Battle Game (AKA The Hobbit)

Anyone play this? It's the tabletop game that Games Workshop produce but it is slowly dying off. It is quite big at my local club though (it's supplanted 40k!) and they are playing the small-scale Battle Companies. After trying it at the club I was thinking of getting a few Giant Spiders and a Wild Warg pack to swamp them with a horde of angry feral dogs and spiders. ;)

I had a look at it but wasn't immediately interested, it's saved in the banks of my brain so I'll eventually check it out with my friends.

Unrelated to table-top but I recently re-installed the old PC game Battle for Middle Earth: 2, what a great game!

At my old club (chesterfield open gaming society) we used to put on regular events where we'd have huuuuge LOTR tabletob battles, twenty players and a couple of thousand models to a side. Havent played in a while, but it really was good fun.

40K still my fav, but it's been years since I played properly.

10v10 or 20v20? Bet that takes all day!

I'm with Mid-Sussex Wargamers (MSWG) and they play 1000pt pitched battles against each other alongside smaller Battle Company games. Host tournaments occasionally too. Last one they had the entire top floor of the pub packed out with players, it's meant to be a big scene in LOTR wargaming!

Also check out Smaug, huge dragon model (but the Forgeworld price to match!)

Twenty total thank god!

I've not been for ages.

I've found some pictures from a gaming event we did back in 2005, not quite to the same scale, but massive none the less!

Didn't enjoy the cleanup though!

I've played every LOTR game except for the one in the title? :s

Middle Earth 1 and 2 was a beast, and now it's got me thinking about installing it again :)

Ah..... how EA area so clever in developing battalions of 5 mirkwoods that can kill Sauron in under 10 seconds..... :/

(Gimlis jump is insane.) Glitched heros eventually killed off online on that game :(

Ordered my small force last night just in time for Christmas Post.

12 Orcs (4 Bow, 4 Shield, 4 Spear)

6 Wargs

1 Warg Chieftan

4 Orc Blackshields

No idea if it is even legal! But I guess the Warg Chieftan leads and the Orcs follow so the Wargs are fed and eat somebody else. :D

I'd love to get back into the swing of things eventually. I used to be a regular at the 40k grand tournaments at HQ, but now I'm living up in Preston and have a family, finding time to play is pretty tricky.

Used to play warhammer just before secondary school. Was quite fun, I found it fizzled as I grew up. No one around me does DnD or Warhammer now afaik. :(

I'm playing X Wing Miniatures with my daughter and Alternity occasionally with two other friends.

I've also recently discovered the Euroboard game phenomenon and now own Carcassonne, Ticket to ride, Alhambra, Splendor and Munchkin and I'm looking forward to the launch of Imperial Assault in February

I used to play AD&D, Call of Cthulhu and a few others in my school days
