[sims] Email directly from Sims.NET

Hi All,

 

I am not sure if anyone will know what I am talking about as I have never seen it but have been asked by a member of SLT to get it?!

 

Apparently in Sims.NET you can go to a student and then from sims click somewhere and get the option to email all their teachers (using outlook with exchange). Amongst various other options for emailing linked to that student/class.

 

Does anyone know what this is?

SIMS InTouch let's you do all that sort of thing

I believe Schoolcomms allows this as well and is far cheaper. However it's done via their product not sims. I suppose it depends on need I guess. Edited December 1, 2014 by IWDave

Salamander will extract those mail lists into Outlook - teachers of student x, form teachers, all students in form x - you ask for it, they will sort it for you.

Your best bet is to get in touch with your sims support person who provides external support there is a product called sims intouch which integrates into sims and from this you can send text messages and emails from it provided all the correct information is in sims but its not free thats the down side but it is good and I know its a great tool for keeping that communication between school and parents/guardian

InTouch is the built-in way to message / email. Expensive unless you want it for other things like parent comms.

 

There is also the option to send internal messages from some screens / modules. e.g. behaviour. Or open a student profile and click on send message on the links. Never actually got it to narrow down the list of staff to only theirs, i'm sure it was discussed here a few times. Free and built-in.

 

Schoolcomms is ace, much cheaper and there is a link to open it from within SIMS, they also have apps and other snazzyness.

 

Salamander is another good option, with other features for linking to AD so a much broader solution and very reasonably priced.

You might need to modify the report slightly. This doesn't rely on staff needing rights over other staff data, e.g. the email, it just works by looking up teh email for the name in the exchange directory via outlook.

Thanks for all the replies, I am now in contact with Capita about InTouch... Just in time as I need to look at a new texting service provider and rather one product for all then paying double for two different products.
