Divaldo Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 We have a Meru wireless network with captive portal configured for students' own devices. The Meru controller is also acting as DHCP server for these 'guest' devices. Everything works fine, but I've noticed that anything Apple flavour (iPads/Pods and Phones) seems to retain its IP address much longer than it should. When a student goes home, the DHCP lease stays in the lease table for a few of days and can therefore not be used by anything else. Windows, Android and anything else you care to mention seems fine, the IP address can be dished out again within an hour or so of it leaving the school, but the only way to get back the addresses that had been used by an Apple device is to restart the DHCP service. This means that after 4 or 5 days, all of our addresses have been hogged by the Apple devices, stay in the DHCP lease table and nobody else can connect. Has anyone else run into this?
JHatz Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 I haven't run into this - my lease time is set only for an hour though ( 3600 seconds). I've only run out of addresses on three occasions and they never persisted past the hour mark.
Divaldo Posted November 26, 2014 Author Posted November 26, 2014 ok, thanks. My lease time is set to just 2000 seconds, that's the weird thing about it. The Apple devices don't seem to pay any attention to this!
