Xeba37 Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 When creating Individual Reports for students in SIMS Assessment Manager I am having issues with which class teacher is shown as the 'main' teacher when several teachers share a class. For example, there are several instances where one teacher of a subject has a class 3 times a week and another teacher has them for one lesson for the same subject. Is there any way we can control which teacher is displayed as the main teacher of that class. There seems to be no logic as to which teacher it pulls though, it is not alphabetical and it is not the teacher who is timetabled the first lesson of the week. `Ideally we need it to show the teacher who takes the class the majority of the time. I have thought of a work around for next time (I will use result descriptions for a parents evening aspect for each subject rather than the 'Class Teacher' information), but setting the new gradesets and aspects up for this and changing hundreds of templates is not an option in short time-frame I have at the moment. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. This is causing havoc with our parents evening teacher requests. Thanks.
LosOjos Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I'm afraid you're out of luck - there is no way AFAIK of changing the way SIMS selects a teacher for it's 'Class Teacher' template tag. What I do is add a 'Report Author' column (comment aspect) and put the teacher name in manually - this helps also where staff with split classes split the group to write reports, as I let them put their own names in the column. Means I have to go through after each report run and check names have been input (and spelt correctly, believe it or not!) but it's the only way I've found to ensure accuracy.
ICTLady Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I do the same as Los Ojos. Teachers like it as if one teacher has written the report, that is clear to the parent so they know who to contact with queries about what has been said.
Xeba37 Posted November 21, 2014 Author Posted November 21, 2014 Thanks not to worry, they will have to put up and shut up this time! Next time it will be sorted by having enter their 3 letter staff code to request a parents evening visit rather than just a Yes so I can get it to pull their names through as a result description. I think that will work in a similar way to what you are suggesting except I won't have to check spelling as I will have done that in the gradeset description
Ecclesbury Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 In case anyone cares the Main Class Teacher is assigned in Nova. Initially it is the first teacher that is added to class (either through the classes window or the block window) regardless of how many lessons they teach for that class. You can change it in the classes window. Double click the class in question and you can change the Main Teacher drop down. That won't solve your problem (I also use a separate aspect to get round this) but may be useful in other circumstances. 1
vikpaw Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 I'm sure i've always used the main teacher selection in Nova to control it. Though in practise if it's a situation where you have multiple teachers, we usually want both to come through so use a comment aspect to pull in teacher name anyway, even though only the main teacher may have written it.
