Instaling Moodle and Wordpress in School

Hi Everyone,

 

Not sure if I am on the right forum but I’ll give it a go. With the new Computing curriculum staff and students are required to use Moodle and WordPress. I was wondering has anybody started using these in there schools and how have they deployed or installed them. I don’t have much experience with either other than installing wordpress locally on my laptop with wampserver. What would be the best way to install these, locally or on a network drive??

Might be best to go back a bit - nothing in the curriculum states requires either of those, is there something in particular you/your school is trying to achieve with those? Does the school not already have a VLE?

It is not a requirement to the best of my knowledge otherwise i would have heard about it by now!

 

But i have just built a moodle server for internal and external use. I would suggest dedicated box or server with IIS running on it.

I did ours on Ubuntu Server 14.04 with apache as the web server

The ICT Coordinator has bought the Rising Stars Switched on Computing package, which has Moodle and WordPress in the Year 5 and 6 Units. Not 100% sure, but I assume the children will use them to design/create websites. We currently have server 2012 which has IIS. If it is for the children to use, what would be the best way to implement this??

They are just suggestions for software to use for fulfilling to the objectives, not mandatory. Just took a look and Google Sites/Blogger are also suggested and 'any other similar software'.

 

We are using Blogger for the blogging unit and Google Sites for the website stuff.

Thanks Sparkeh, I will probably do the same as I think Moodle and WordPress would be a bit too difficult for children to use at this stage..

You can install Moodle and WordPress on the same server and you can use an LTI connection to place WordPress within Moodle for users. This means that your users in Moodle will be able to use WordPress within Moodle and there will be no need to worry about authentication because LTI will handle that for you. Search for 'Moodle Wordpress LTI' in Google but this article by Gavin Henrick may prove useful Moodle 2.2 supports connecting to IMS LTI tools. | Some Random Thoughts.
