Epson EMP-X5e needs a code!

Hi,

 

First post and first problem!

 

Have an Epson EMP-X5e that won't accept a code to unlock it! Some building work needed it powered off and now when powered back on needs a code. The remote won't accept 7 or 9 so I can't input 1793 as I've done for other Epson projectors. Tried 0000 as mentioned in the manual but that won't unlock it either and have 2 other remotes that will turn it on but won't input any numbers when NUM pressed down while entering numbers?

 

The projector is in a school hall so high up and have no ladder tall enough to get the serial number so contacting Epson will be a problem! The remote has a blue outline around the numbers except 7 and 9 and has about 18 buttons but no NUM button, has anyone else come across this scenario where a remote won't allow 7 or 9 to be entered?

Yup Ive had the same problem here with that model Theres one that will only accept one particular zapper to reset it . Just refuses to play ball with an identical zapper from the next room.

 

I ended up taping over the bottom of the power switch on the wall in that room to discourage the kids from turning it off.

 

It doesnt help when staff move the zappers around from room to room - then you find the on/off works, but not much else. Do you think they will be told not to move them? Ive started writing the room numbers under the battery compartments so I can tell where the bloody things came from!

On further digging, the remote for it seems to be 'lost' as the one they use for it is from an X6e, so no wonder the 7 and 9 won't work then! So what does the remote look like? Is it the one with the black joypad button as I haven't tried one of those yet?

White 4 inches or so long, black logos under the buttons lower edge curved. No NUM key on them

 

 

We have about 4 generations of Epsons with 3 different remotes

 

Oldest ones have grey oblong remotes with a NUM key. Most of these are getting on for 10 years old so are slowly being withdrawn

 

Theres a small number of larger white oblong remotes, no num key.

 

And the small rounded edge ones with the black numerical figures, no NUM key. All turn each model on & off, but that as far as it goes once they get swapped round.

 

Becafeful you dont run out of attempts - you only get about 9 then it locks up completely until you get a reset code from Epson.

 

Last time that happened here Epson refused to help without the purchase receipt - which we didnt have as it was several years after purchase.

Thanks for that, the original remote has been missing for about '2 years' apparently and the one from the X6e looks to be the same and they say has been used to enter the code before, but it won't do it now!

 

Looks like trying Epson. If I could safely stack 2 tables on top of each other and put a chair on top I could read the serial, but that's not going to happen is it Time to see how good the zoom is on their cameras and phones!

"Looks the same" and "operates using the same code scheme" are two completely different things

Have now decided to simply replace the stupid thing with a spare Hitachi! If I did get a code from Epson and it contained a 7 or 9 the remote I have probably won't input it, so easier to replace it with a known working one and leave it at that!
