I'm absolutely loving the actual content, the only concern I have is the multiplayer. From what I understand, their multiplayer model is p2p, based on player bubbles or 'islands' - you will only see the closest 32* people to you at one time.

The fact it's p2p is causing a lot of problems for players but that's not really where my concerns lie, I can deal with some lag etc - the main issue for me is that I want to play with my friends and other people I know who play ED - and you can't really do that because of the way the combat model interacts with multiplayer.

* figure may change, last time I checked it was accurate.

What is your opinion on the current state of ED? does it live up to the Elite legacy?

Frontier are aiming for a "before 2015" release, which means there's only a few months left. Do you think it 'is in' or 'will be in' an acceptable state for release?

Loving it, bar the glitches, bugs, crashing, freezing, lack of wiki knowledge around items.

The actual simulation factor is top class.

I'm sure i read something around the 22nd Nov 2014? that the final version would be released?

22nd November is when the beta will officially end - the server will also be wiped (so you'll lose all your credits and ship!).

Testers will be able to play beyond 22nd November up until release, but anything they do during this time will be kept on release.

I've just splashed out (£50!?!) for the beta. So, I'll have a look when I get home (its downloading).

Just from an initial glance at the site there's a few things I like about it:

1. Its more of a simulator than something like Eve. Having to lower landing gear, and fly to a landing pad within a station seems like a nice "realistic" idea.

2. The eventual expansive universe sounds like a great idea. If you end up playing multiplayer, things shouldn't end up cluttered like Jita.

I'll give more detail when I actually play it!

I'm enjoying playing it but space feels kind of 'empty' at the moment and some of the missions are pretty repetitive. The core combat, flight mechanics are good and the immersion factor is fantastic but feature wise it's a bit barren IMO. Hopefully the multiplayer aspect will add to it once they roll out the final release. Speaking of which for something that's supposed to be an MMO you don't really have much opportunity, or many ways, to interact with other player directly at the moment.

I think the best thing about it is definitely the immersion. That and the fact that if feels genuinely like something new and fresh.

It'll be interesting to see what else they add prior to release next month.

Think its great atm, liking the progression and immersion, the original elite was alot harder to progress as quickly. Also enjoying some of the game mechanics docking, mining, ship refit. What has got me pretty frustrated is the bulletin board, every mission I take ends with me having stolen goods and paying loads in fines, maybe someway to know how risky what your taking on, or cargo scanning so you can choose to get rid before you get fined.

I have a real fear that they may have bitten off more than they can handle and trying to rush something out and capture the market before SC, so i'm expecting some growing pains with servers and connectivity when they get flooded with retail customers. Hopefully solo mode will be available while they go through this phase. I think most MMOs go through this initially.

Hoping for an auto cruise flight computer too.
