Deploying via WDS - Can I just buy a switch and use it?

We have a school network that is managed by our district. I am tasked with imaging a number of laptops and I'm hoping to speed up the process.

Can I just buy a switch, plug it in to one of the existing ethernet ports and proceed to plug in the laptops to image them? Or will this cause issues?

I can ask for dedicated cable runs, but they will literally only be used once a year for the new years' laptop imaging which seems like a waste.

The existing switches are all in cabinets near the ceiling and not really accessible.

Hi sletts02,

Yes you can plug any switch into an existing wall outlet to image machines. I would recommend going with something gigabit (assuming the district switch is gigabit) as this will speed the process up a fair amount.

Fantastic! Yes district switch is gigabit so that is great.

Having 24 devices image at once will make my life bliss hahaha. Even if it is an overnight job.

Thanks for your insights =)
