Primary Schools

Hi, i work in a number of Primary Schools and like most things, school/ICT etc, i am in the dark. I have searched briefly in these forums but not found anything relating to me, so i will ask the question. How does BSF/ICT/Managed services effect Primary Schools? Thanks

I've been trying to find this out myself and as yet it seems they're not...

 

That along with the fact that there are a lot of squealing brakes to be heard in the secondary sector leads me to believe it'll not be on the cards for a while.

 

Of course I could be wrong... :?

Been talking to a former colleague now teaching in a secondary up north and thanks to BSF they only get two days a week IT Support with the remaining three days covered by being able to log incidents on the phone......

I dont work directly for the LEA but their technicians are telling me it effects ALL schools and they say they will work for the new managed service provider and take over my job.

You might want to check that with your headteacher and get them to check further on up the chain.

 

As far as I'm aware BSF is not about taking over the primaries at all but instead about providing managed services to the secondaries... Of course some primaries pull support from secondary schools locally if they're in the same catchment area which I guess would be affected.

 

Getting the facts for your area is vital though and if your head doesn't know then you need to kick them to find out.

Primary Capital Programme does not mandate ICT as a managed service, and there's no investment in ICT in terms of specific funding, so its down to how creative your LA is!

 

The approach to ICT will vary between Local Authority's, and can be found in a document called 'Primary Capital Programme Strategy for Change' that each submitted as part of the process. There are some good case study's from early work and pathfnders, but all have required investment by the LA.

I have been *told* by various people 'in-the know' that initially primaries who work on their own will not be affected, but it is likely in the future that the provider will want to take over the primaries as well in the fullness of time. This could take a long time though given the mess things are in

There are some LEA's where such a scheme would result in outright rebellion from the headteachers.
