snagrat Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 I am looking for a Flash Pen Drive that when plugged in shows as an internal local disk. Can anyone suggest one? My current SanDisk Cruzer Blade does but reports on the net suggest they no longer do. Needs to be 32GB min.

It looks like newer versions of the drive no longer appear as an internal drive. For a limited period in 2013, SanDisk USB Flash drives were produced with Fixed Disk configuration. I know. My 16GB was bought about a month ago but must be old stock to show as an internal drive. But of risk if I buy a 32GB from same supplier as may be a new batch

These definitely show up as internal drives because they are designed for Windows To Go. MyPassport is an option, just bigger that's all. The DataTraveller is ideal.....just not at that price!

SanDisk had begun the production of flash drives configured as fixed disk in 2012 to meet new requirements for Windows 8 Certification, and ended it in mid-2014. The flash drives that comply with this certification will have the Windows 8 logo on their packaging. If a flash drive does not have the Windows 8 logo on its packaging, then that drive will function as a removable disk and should work with Tails. However, after looking at the read speed of my flash drive I think I have found an even easier way of determining which SanDisk Extreme's show up as fixed or removable. The old SanDisk Extreme has a read speed of 190MB/s while the newer model has a read speed of 245MB/s. If you have a look on Amazon and eBay there are still some companies selling old stock. e.g. amazon.co.uk/dp/B00K83MSJK and ebay.co.uk/itm/310826863750 Edit.
