Hi,

We currently have our email hosted by Capita, both student and staff though using two different domain. Students use Office 365 and staff are using Capita's Exchange services.

We're looking at possible avenues away from this in the future. I'm trying to differentiate what a user (staff member) would gain from going from an Exchange account to an Office 365 account. I'm finding it hard to find a reason to stay on a hosted Exchange platform when with Office 365 you get the storage, Lync, SharePoint, Office Apps dependant on your subscription.

What are your thoughts on moving from Exchange to Office 365 for the people that have done it? Any lost functionality, or mainly just gains?

Gains in terms of storage (50GB mailbox means you can effectively forget about quotas).

Lose some abilities around controlling your own policies around archiving and backup, you'll need to decide what's provided on the free plan is sufficient for your organisational requirements around retention and so on.

Make sure you test thoroughly before putting it out to staff, especially if using the Outlook client (which should be Office 2013 for the smoothest experience).

See our experiences for more detail (we went from a legacy email product but the Outlook \ 365 info is very relevant)
