RJohnson91 Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 Hi all!! We run virtual over here and we are trying our best not to spend any money on thinclients so we are creating our own! We have created a windows 7 thin based image, with the shell to auto run Iexplore.exe -k which is perfect ... except! The hot keys are killing us, such as Ctrl + O to open a document on the local machine, or Ctrl + S. So my question to you, is how do I disable these keys? I have tried the Reg 'hacks' of Keymapping (this is what all keyboard locking software does also) and it's great, except when you log into the virtual machine it carries the key mapping over and disabled CTRL inside the virtual machine. Has anyone managed to disable to the ctrl key through anything other than regedit? OR, is there a setting I can flick on Citrix VDI in a box to stop the pass through of the keyboard reg settings? Thanks! Ryan
MordyT Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 How about SRP on the thin image blocking explorer? Don't fight the keyboard, block the programs they run...
RJohnson91 Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 How about SRP on the thin image blocking explorer? Don't fight the keyboard, block the programs they run... Problem we have is that it's hotkeys built into IE. For example, we replace the explorer.exe with Iexplore.exe. But when you're inside Internet Explorer you can use Ctrl + O to open a local item. To my knowledge there is no software that I could restrict to prevent this, this is a windows feature. Even disabling explorer doesn't help! Ryan
tmcd35 Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Not sure if this helps, but what I did here when I wanted to reprovision some thick clients as thin clients was use a simple batch file: :reload mstsc goto reload And set that as the Windows default shell. No explorer.exe, IE, or whatever. If it's a browser based thin client you're after would another web browser like Chrome or Firefox solve the problem? Or maybe use a stripped down Linux install instead of Windows?
