LeMarchand Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Trailer looks like it will skew too obviously at kids for me Just finished watching it. I didn't like it (but then again I didn't expect to like it) Without making comparisons to/with the original series I thought that the story was chaotic and didn't hold the interest. It was very all over the place and fast paced which does attract the new generation They broke the theme music! Do all kids really have A.D.D.? It seemed to be aimed at kids who had to have a new thing happening every couple of seconds. The CG was disappointing and the shots of the craft failed to give them any "weight". Plus, awful music. I watched and thought it wasn't a patch on the original series, as there were far too many changes. Why did they completely change the shape of T5? Why did they change the nationality of Brains? Why did they change the name and nationality of Tin Tin? Why did they make Grandma far younger? Where is Kyrano? Why give Lady Penelope a designer handbag mutt? Why change the way Virgil enters T2? (What's with the acrobatics? Surely he wouldn't have to heave the hatch shut by hand?) There were some nice references to other Anderson series. Stingray shown on the TV (albeit backwards), the front of the underwater research station looking remarkedly like the front of an Eagle from Space 1999 and the new Thunderbird S (S for Shadow) as a reference to UFO. Did anybody spot any others? Didn't mind the changes so much. T5 was similar enough and made sense in terms of design. Brains' nationality change was a bit of a stereotype, but also made sense. Tin Tin and Kyrano seem to have been merged into Kayo (and the originals could be seen as racist). Grandma didn't bother me, but I'll give you the mutt + the TB2 entrance. One that did bother me was Rosamund Pike's odd Lady P voice. The underwater scientist was called "Meddings" - after Derek Meddings, the SFX guy on the original? Saturday 8 am is to be the regular time slot for the rest of the series: http://i.snag.gy/9BaDV.jpg Well, that synopsis saves us having to watch the show!
tmcd35 Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Hate to ask a silly question - but what was wrong with just re-running the originals (or better still Captain Scarlet, that was my favourite!)
6Foot2 Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 Hate to ask a silly question - but what was wrong with just re-running the originals (or better still Captain Scarlet, that was my favourite!) Don't want to give my father-in-law any ammunition in that regard. According to him EVERYTHING he sees on television is a repeat. A recent example is Poldark: He really doesn't seem to understand that it isn't the program from the 70's. Using our Tivo box I paused the news live and re-ran a report that I wanted to see the content of again. He insisted that this was a repeat too!
unixman_again Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 I wouldn't mine seeing the originals again. You can buy the box set on DVD for less than £15, but I have an ever growing pile of DVDs to watch, and more that I want to buy, so I probably won't just yet. Which version of Captain Scarlet? I like both versions. Did you know Siouxsie & the Banshees did a version of the theme? (The gunfire at the start of this vid doesn't appear on the record)
GREED Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Live action adult captain scarlet, dark and gritty, has to be done
6Foot2 Posted April 8, 2015 Author Posted April 8, 2015 Live action adult captain scarlet, dark and gritty, has to be done Sounds like a show waiting to be made. Develop it a little, pitch it to someone, and make loads of money...?
GREED Posted April 8, 2015 Posted April 8, 2015 Will do: 'Make Captain Scarlet with real people, same theme and everything... but don't norse it up by making it for kids or making it for the American market' Need any more? Awaits money...
6Foot2 Posted December 9, 2017 Author Posted December 9, 2017 David Tennant appears in Thunderbirds Are Go this morning: The episode will be shown again (12:45 - 13:10) 1
