RM Tutor 6 lock screen bypass

We have started to use the RM Tutor 6 in the IT suite today to see the practicality with using it. So far so good apart from one of our students knows some keyboard shortcuts to disable it working on the machine he was logged into. does anyone know what keys was pressed? and is there a way to block this? because I'm sure the technique will spread round quickly and make the software redundant. Thanks in advance

I remember that.. because I used to do it in school too! (back when RM first started being deployed in schools).

 

Chances are he's locking his screen (windows+L) or opening the ctrl+alt+delete options list just before the teachers use RM to lock the screens, then he simply exits off the that screen and he's good to go.

 

Try testing the above methods to see if either works, if they are what the student is doing then you can fix by either blocking the ability for students to lock via GPO or block them being able to open CTRL+ALT+DEL screen (via GPO too).

It's more of a permissions issue than a bug with the software. If you've got access to task manager, you can kill any resource off. If you're having similar issues, just disable task manager completely for students, they should never need it anyway.

We haven't got Tutor 6 yet but assessing a few classroom management systens, so just querying around.

We don't allow Task Manager anyway. But it seems the above is not related to Task Manager but the CTRL-ALT-DEL screen where it gives you options to change password and log off...or am I mistaken?

I've had it in the past where a student has done this, goes to the change password screen just before the teacher was going to lock them, but then they press cancel and as soon as RM Tutor refreshed (max 30 secs), it locked them out.

 

Best bet is to trial it on one machine and try and break it, like you probably do with most software

Task Manager and ctrl-alt-delete should be disable out of the box on an RM network.

 

What station type are the computers? If they are laptops he might be selecting a different room in location chooser.

 

Failing that, I see they have released version 6.1.

That's another thing - location chooser. Can you specify in Tutor 6 computers by hostname that should be in that room, even though students can choose another room?

Example - terminal server serves 2 rooms - LRC and Textiles. Student physically logs in at LRC but chooses Textiles as location. Therefore, the librarian cannot see the student's screen.

How does Tutor 6 deal with this?
