Sanyo PLC-XE20 Pro xtraX Multiverse Projector - Start up problem

Hi,

 

I bought a Sanyo PLC-XE20 projector last year, I fitted a new bulb and reset the counter lamp counter, it has had 200 hours mas use since.

 

When I now turn it on it goes to the blue start up screen and a 30 second countdown begins.

 

At this point the only button I can press to get the picture up is the on/off button, I press this once and the computer/dvd/playstation video comes up and the counter disappears, so I can see everything going on like open programmes and mouse movement.

 

But when the 3- seconds are up it just shuts down and the fan goes into overdrive really loud. The red power light flashes for a minute then it goes into standby mode.

 

I have cleared it all out and rid it of dust, no warning or replace lamp light is on so im really stuck at an end here, I have the user manual so thats also been no help.

 

Has anyone got a quick fix I can undertake or know what the problem is at all.

These are pretty old projectors now (over 8 years), and beyond the basics there isn't much that can be done on them. It sounds like you've done most of it already.

 

1. There are 2 filters (one at the front, one at the back). These both need to be clean. Whilst they are removed, hoover it out with a high powered hover like a henry.

2. Check the filter hours. I can't remember if the xe20 has this or not.

3. Check the lamp hours. If they go over a certain number (Either 2000 or 3000 - I can't remember which), then the projector will shut down to prevent the bulb from exploding.

4. Try a different bulb. Bulbs don't always last as long as they should. They can also fail in strange ways. We had an xe20 that only worked sat on a desk. as soon as you hung it from the ceiling, it turned itself off after a few minutes.

5. some projectors have a thermal cutout in them. From memory, this usually stops them from doing anything. The bulb wouldn't come on at all if this had tripped, so I don't think its relevant here. Also, I don't think the xe20 has one that can be reset, like other sanyo projectors.

 

There is a service port on the back that you can get some diagnostic information, but its not really helpful in terms of fixing it. At this point you probably need to replace the projector anyway. You could always keep the bulb for another projector if you have more of them. If its none of the above, then its either overheating, or there is a fault on the electronics. Neither of those is really fixable.
