Is there a kid-friendly, 'simple' mode for Win 8.1?

Hello,

 

We have had an increasing need for an operating system that allows unsupervised usage with our early years children here at Primary school. The problem we have is they have a tendency to 'close' the apps they are given to use.

 

Is there a way of setting an app running and keeping it there so they can't close it? The teacher loads the application and that's it. It's on until the teacher turns it off again?

 

Could anyone help with this please? I feel like Windows 8.1 may be the solution but I'm unsure how to implement it.

Are these normal Windows apps or Windows Store Apps?

That's great info but might be a bit of a faff for teachers when they want to swap apps. It looks like the only way to implement this would be to have lots of different kiosk users which wouldn't be the most elegant way. Surely there must be another way?

 

The apps are mixed but if I can find a painting app to rival Dazzle and also a way of putting internet apps into kiosk mode then that would be the best solution.

Really appreciate all the help. I found this link which has a group policy solution. I would probably still have to set up seperate users for the apps but it will be much easier via Active Directory than individual machines and not only that it can cover all machines present and future.
