Promethean PRM-35 flickering

Hi guys,

 

got a flickering projector. It does this when nothing is plugged in and it's on the menu which makes me think it isn't cables. I've tried a different bulb, but still does it.

 

Am I correct in thinking the problem is the projector?

 

Luckily for me, the previous tech didn't report this problem whilst the unit was in warranty... infuriating.

 

This is the second PRM-35 I've had an issue with while I've been here and they are only 2 years old.

 

Thoughts? Experiences?

Promethean are saying projector issue. I just need to get the serial number at break time to see if it is in warranty. Might try and sweet talk them into doing a warranty repair if it's out, just 'cause I'm not forking out for a new proj!!

We had an issue with an Optoma projector flickering very badly in one room a year or so back. Thanks to weird wiring in one corner of the room the computer was plugged into a socket that was on a different electrical phase to the projector. Swapping the plugs and sockets around sorted the problem out. Now we ensure nothing important is plugged into this particular socket.

OMG... didn't think about that. There is crazy wiring, but it's the same in each classroom.... hmmm... I'll try and plug it into a different socket, or a surge protected extension and see if makes a difference.

In our place this particular problem socket was one that had been put in donkeys years ago and is a spur taken from the adjacent room. The rest of the room sockets are on their own supply.

it's hard wired in. I might try running a new leccy cable to it though, worth a punt.

Exactly the same issue today with a brand new Promethean PRM35. Problem was with the power supply connecting the laptop which we use to drive the projector. It's a two year old Toshiba machine and by replacing the Power Supply with one from a brand new Toshiba laptop the issue is resolved and no more flickers. The power supplies are the same output the only difference is the old one has a three pin connection from mains to the transformer the new one only has a two pin connector. Might be worth a try if you are experiencing this problem.

interesting... we also use Toshiba laptops... I'll check the power supply to it. Getting a different projector fitted next week though!!!
