edutech4schools Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 I have a HP Microserver which did have Server 2008 installed with 3 HDDs. Drive 0 was the OS drive and the other 2 were both separate 3gb data drives. After having installed Server 2012r2 neither of the data drives are listed in 'My Computer' but they are both listed in 'Disk Manager' as healthy and online. If I right click on a drive all options are greyed out apart from properties. Any idea how I can get these to work. - - - Updated - - - If someone could move this in to the 2012r2 forum. Sorry.
sted Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 did you flash the bios before installing 2012 r2 as at least with windows 8.1 it has hdd issues (often wont even install) until its flashed. Also what mode is the raid controller in ahci or raid? 1
Arthur Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 Updating the BIOS would be the first thing I would try too. Latest download links below. N36L, N40L & N54L http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib2/software1/pubsw-windows/p1657370250/v93269/SP64420.exe G8 http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib2/software1/pubsw-windows/p1977551292/v93897/SP64874.exe 2
edutech4schools Posted September 29, 2014 Author Posted September 29, 2014 Thanks for the links. I will not get a chance to try that until later. Thanks
edutech4schools Posted September 29, 2014 Author Posted September 29, 2014 Flashed BIOS but no joy. In BIOS the sata controller mode is on raid, with the other options being ide and ahci.
Arthur Posted September 29, 2014 Posted September 29, 2014 If you're not using RAID, I would switch the SATA mode to AHCI.
edutech4schools Posted September 30, 2014 Author Posted September 30, 2014 OK, changed to ahci in BIOS and needed to re install os but still no joy. If it helps the drives that are not getting a drive letter are both 3tb western digital red addition sata drives. Thanks.
edutech4schools Posted October 1, 2014 Author Posted October 1, 2014 At this point I am not concerned with keeping the data on the drive but really need the drive to be visible in windows.
Norphy Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 Have you initiated, partitioned and formatted the disks? They won't show in My Computer until you do.
SHimmer45 Posted October 1, 2014 Posted October 1, 2014 have you tried removing the 2 3GB drives installing the OS onto the single and then plugging in the other two. of your not using RAID on the controller i would turn it off and use AHCI. does the CMD version of diskmanagement allow you to select the disk and do anything with it? 1
edutech4schools Posted October 1, 2014 Author Posted October 1, 2014 Have you initiated, partitioned and formatted the disks? They won't show in My Computer until you do. All those options are greyed out when in disk manager have you tried removing the 2 3GB drives installing the OS onto the single and then plugging in the other two. of your not using RAID on the controller i would turn it off and use AHCI. Tried both those options and still same issue. It is odd as disk manager lists the disks as (when installed) as online and healthy but most options are greyed out. does the CMD version of diskmanagement allow you to select the disk and do anything with it? Not tried that, will give it a go later.
edutech4schools Posted October 7, 2014 Author Posted October 7, 2014 Just in case someone else has a similar issue I could see the disk using cmd but not format or do any of the normal options. The only thing that did run was a clean command then when I went back into Disk Manager I was able to wipe and then use the disk.
