WingnutKid Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 I've recently had our SIMS server rebuilt using Windows Server 2012 R2 and SQL 2012. It's a physical server, but my disaster recovery solution is predominantly virtual, so I decided to test a restore of my new SIMS server onto my disaster recovery solution as virtual server. Appears to work fine!
vikpaw Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Yep. Quite a few people do. Great for testing dangerous tasks, and pre-testing on new releases to see if they install / break anything obvious.

vikpaw Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 I prefer live data. A) it's a good way to test your backup, plus B) it properly tests with the nuances of your data and you know who should be linked to what etc.
