HP Switch Trunk & Aggregated Links

HP JE096A & JD374A Trunks & or aggregated Links Config what to disable that should be enabled on ports to edge switches i.e. ARP detection etc.

 

Or point me in the right direction for the HP manual.

Do you mean plugging in 2 network cables to link 2 switches together, and then configuring the switch to treat it as 1 cable (like NIC teaming)? i.e.

 

1GB x 2 cables to give you a 2GB connection between 2 switches

We have several aggregated links between core switches, these are fibre cables to 1Gb transceivers on the switch ports, some of the links have just two aggregated ports and others have three but its the same on each switch link i.e. 2Gb or 3Gb. So yes like NIC teaming but mainly for port or cable failure.

 

I believe that there are different configs for trunk and aggregated links ports like ARP detection etc. Than links to edge switches just not sure where to look and just not enough time at the moment to read every manual, so hoping that another Edugeek user has already similar setup

Its not quite like that. Think of it as adding an extra lane on the motor way. You still can't got over 70mph but because of the extra lane the traffic moves from A to B more efficiently and gets to the destination quicker.

(You can view the status of trunks by using the command):

show trunks

to create a port into a trunk you can run the command

trunk # trk100 lacp

 

(where # is the port number) trk100 is just a sample name

Are you sure, I thought that was for redundancy? It would disable one link and enable it if the other goes down. I thought you would have to add them to a port channel?

I've got a couple of procurves but haven't setup a trunnk yet. After logging in i guess it is:

 

Device > Port Management > Setup > Link Type - change to 'trunk' (and select the ports to trunk)
