gsk Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Hi All, The prices on these seem to be pretty good at the moment and I'm particularly interested in the 6065 which is a 4k UHD display. I have got a couple of C Touch interactive panels up but wondered if any of you had experience with either of the SMART products? Thanks,
edutech4schools Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 I think the E70 is end of life which is a shame as the 6065 is a bit to small for our needs.
gsk Posted September 22, 2014 Author Posted September 22, 2014 I'd like to see a 6065 in action because I'm wondering whether it's going to be too high resolution for the size in a classroom.
VeryPC_Andy Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 (edited) We've supplied a good number of E70's this year and actually have a 6065i in our demo/training room here. The E70 was rumoured to go EOL, from my last conversation with Steljes (UK smart wholesaler) they were still stocking ordering and bringing the E70 into the UK. I will double check and post back in a bit. The 6065 is a great bit of kit and looks the part to, the 4k is also a perk in terms of future proofing as the amount of 4k content people use /have access to right now is minimal. My only niggle on 6065i is the only video input is 1 x HDMI , having said that you can upgrade to a second HDMI. With all the smart products you get a licence of smart notebook and also a 1yr subscription to smart advantage (updates and product support). We are based in Sheffield and our demo room is always open for visitors - Feel free to a PM me or our AV champ @VeryPC_Ross if you would like more info, pricing or to arrange a demo. VeryPC_Andy Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 @gsk I checked out the E70, it is not EOL next stock should be available in toward the back end of October.
edutech4schools Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 That is not what Steljis told us. We also had a local company come back and tell us the same. Very odd.
Guest Guest Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 I've got 4 E70s, they are awesome! Can be a bit sensitive compared to a traditional 600 series board but the screen quality is wonderful
Wilderbeest Posted March 27, 2015 Posted March 27, 2015 We've had problems with the 6065's we have installed. There is a firmware issue which makes them pretty much unreliable/unusable - Smart has NO IDEA when this will be fixed. The 4K feature is more of a problem than a help. Nothing has 4K capability as standard, so you will have to add in some extra hardware to make it work. £45 PCIe cards work well. Then the 6065 image will be beautiful, but is an extended desktop - unless you have a 4K monitor on the teacher station, allowing you to mirror. You will need to get some software to add the command bar to the 6065. (Something like display fusion). After all of this, the icons are too small to be usable. You can scale up text and icons, but it's system wide, not display specific and applications such as Sims do not like scaled text. So, we have ended up a) using them as expensive TVs until the firmware fix finally materialises b) using them at lower than 4K if we are brave enough to attempt an interactive lesson. We will probably not be getting any more 6065 units. Nice idea - they just don't deliver the exciting Bett promise. (If you are a Mac user, the 6065 does at least support multi-touch, which the E70 doesn't.)
