simple logginig on question

I have multiple site in my network (physical locations on different subnets) (all servers on 2008R2)

 

So for example 192.168.1... is HO. Which is a domain controller, dhcp. dns, etc etc

192.168.2... site A. Not a DC, just dhcp, file, print

192.168.3... site B. Not a DC, just dhcp, file, print

 

Will site A & B authenticate at the HO DC? Or will they authenticate on their site servers?

 

I'm just upgrading Site B, and wondering if I should make it a DC (it isn't at the moment) to save on network traffic across the WAN.

They will authenticate at their "nearest" DC, so if there is no DC in their own site they will go to HO. Best to make a DC at each if you want people to still be able to authenticate if the link between sites goes down.

Like @AlexisK has already stated authentication will still be possibly. Again you are counting on the wan working. I would personal recommend creating a DC at each site for some resiliency.

It hasn't been a DC for years with no problems ad the WAN is pretty stable. I'll DC it thought to cut down WAN traffic.
