Impero access to the classroom they are in

How do you give Impero access to just the classroom the teacher is in at logon time?

If it's on a fixed teachers PC just give permissions for that PC to see only that classroom (group)

We set the workstation that the teacher should be using to have permission to see that room of computers, and then the staff just type in the password and away they go.

Interesting question but I'm not sure if it's possible to do that in such a dynamic way, you'd need to grab data regarding the current room etc. Maybe @russdev can shed some light..

Errm, you can restrict the groups that console users can see, so it's just a case of saying Teachers PC in room 1 can only see group 1 and it's computers.

 

If you choose to control access by groups, then you need to allow them to see all the rooms, which is why we configured our console access by computer name instead.

That is correct, however the OP didn't specify whether or not the computer/laptop the teachers were using are static. If a teacher has a laptop and uses multiple rooms, that method wouldn't work. I'm going from my school's set up, we also use Impero so it would be useful to know.

In a laptop situation, it would be a case of allowing access to all groups based on a user group (or setting up personal groups) but then you have to rely on staff clicking the right group to lock screens etc and not accidently turning off another classroom instead.

That's exactly my point, I'd never want to give staff access to all groups like that. I haven't delved too deep into how Impero works, but if I could determine which room the staff member is in (via SIMS perhaps?) then I'm wondering if there's any way to hook into Impero or edit configs somewhere etc.

Well the definitions of the groups is held in the Groups.xml file in the Server\Data folder and its the same with the policy definitions for groups.

 

However the settings for workstation/AD groups that can see the Impero groups is in an encoded format so you can't change it on the fly.

When we looked into when we first got Impero a few years ago, the only option if we wanted roaming consoles was to show all groups, or use the static workstation option.

As been said got few choices here like was originally said but if got roaming' pc then personal groups is an option and if want teacher to be able to import users then can import from a text file which in theory can generate using your timetable program etc.
