jaminben Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Hi, We're just starting with SharePoint (Office 365) and have our site set-up with various departments and this all works great through a browser. We also like the idea of being able to open a folder via the 'Open with Browser' option and again this works fine but we have an issue with staff/students being able to navigate back up the tree and doing things they shouldn't in the root of our site. We've set permissions on the folder structure we set-up and that prevents users from doing things they're not supposed to do but we don't see how to stop users navigating back up the tree into the root. I've attached a screenshot showing where users can click and enter areas their not supposed to. Anyone know how to stop this? Thanks Ben
maniac Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 As far as I'm aware, you can't, I've looked and concluded it's just one of those things you have to accept with this sort of environment, it's a lot more 'open' than a lot of us are used to. Providing you've checked your security it doesn't cause any harm. You'll get one or two students or staff who'll love the fact they can download the ASPX page source code from the site assets folder and all the images etc. but they would be able to do this anyway from the browser should they wish to. jaminben Posted September 13, 2014 Author Posted September 13, 2014 Ok, I've seen a few blogs explaining how to disable the 'Open with Browser' button but they appear to be hacks rather than proper solutions... I guess we'll have to see how things go. Thanks for the reply Ben
Haptic Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 You could group your users, set a tree structure and audience policy to control access. If you think it would help you can have a (free) chat with our O365 specialist if you phone him on 01536 316 870 Joe
