Every time I try to run a complex report in SIMS I get the error message that string or binary data would be truncated.

Checked Capita for a solution and could not find anything on there

Any ideas on how to solve the problem myself or is this something IT department has to do or need a patch to resolve?

I thought that was a common one when an Excel report was corrupted, but it seems that error is occurring in various places and there are at least 3 cases on SupportNet with that error in different modules, they indicate it will be patched in Autumn 14, so it's worth getting it logged, but it seems like there is something generic that needs sorting.

Thanks I'll log it with capita as it happens when I create a basic report but has filters that are a little bit less straightfoward.

Bit of a nusance as Im now having to come up with alternative ways of getting information from sims

we had this same error, in our case I pinned it down to a single field relating to national curriculum years with the help of MLS support as it stopped us running the group call exporter jobs. ,capita sent a patch which solved it.

Will find the patch number

Edit - it was patch 19813 & the field was current ncyear, any attempt to report on this field caused the error.

Thanks!!! Been away for a while so did not see this. Just figured out as well that when any member of staff select NCYear that we get error message. I logged the case on Capita before I saw your post but I will ask IT to apply the patch and hopefully that would solve it

This bug wreaked havoc with Groupcall Xporter reports for integrating SIMS with third party software!

I'm not that familiar with SIMS -- is there a particular process to follow to apply the patch? I've spoken to a number of schools who have reportedly applied the patch but the problem remains, I wonder if they're missing a step.
