gsk Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Hi All, I wanted to know how you all "do" asset management. What I do at the moment is have a database with names, serial numbers, purchase dates, locations etc. I enter new hardware onto the database manually as it comes in, I mark it as disposed when I dispose of it and sometimes query it to see what the oldest kit is or how many of each thing we have. What else do you do and how do you do it? I feel like I ought to be using stickers and barcodes (or even QR codes!) but don't really know why or how. Any thoughts? Thanks,
MatthewL Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Do what is best for you. Asset management is a pain if you do not keep on top of it but sounds like it currently works for you. Most things have a unique identifier on them already (serial number) so tags are not always needed. All I would do is put the date and where/how it was disposed of as that could be useful.
Arreks Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 (edited) Quoted advert removed - Dave I can understand why you'd want to bump all these dead threads, but don't you think the OP has found the solution by now? surely you can advertise in a more appropriate way.. Appropriate would be to pay like our other sponsors do which is why their posts have been removed - Ben Edited November 13, 2014 by plexer
