Hello all,

Here is my scenario and would really welcome some help with it please...

 

-Windows Server 2012 R2 with NFS role installed and NFS share created

-Can not get any iMac on my network including the server to pick up the share

 

Although I would say I am competent with macs, I am no wiz and keep finding sites claiming I need piles of terminal code to mount this drive so what I am looking for is clear instruction on what to open and what to type to get this mount to work.

 

With summer ticking on we have only just realised the latest Final Cut does not allow network saving and I am strongly opposed to local file saves if I can get away with it.

my man fixed it. It was because we were on Mountain lion. Moved to mavericks and all was well.

Hi Folks. I know I'm resurrecting an old thread here but I'm really struggling with User Identity Mapping on a Windows NFS server. The Microsoft documentation is way out of date and I can't seem to find a clear guide on how to set this up.

 

Here's my scenario: I have an Windows NFS server (2008 R2 - I know it's a test box just to see if I can get this working). I've set up the NFS share. I have a couple of iMacs that are joined to the same AD domain as the NFS server. I can login with my AD account (created a Mobile account on the Mac). If I type ID in a terminal window on the Mac I see all of my AD group memberships so I'm pretty confident that all is well with the Domain Join.

 

I can mount the NFS share from the Mac - no problem. But I have only have Read Only access to the files.

 

I have tried changing every setting I can find in NFS to get Read/Write access but nothing works. I have nailed it down to the fact that ownership and permissions of the files on the Windows NFS server do not correspsond to an account on the Mac and vice versa. I know this because if I open up the permissions on the files to give EVERYONE Write access, I can create new files and folders from the Mac.

 

There's quite a bit of info on the web about seting up User Identity Mapping between Windows and Unix - either by using Active Directory or setting up an Identity mapping server. But I cannot, for the life of me, find any meaningful information about how you actually do this.

 

I did find one post suggesting that I add the Unix (Mac) UID in to the UID Number attribute field for my account in AD. I tried this but it doesn't work. As I said, if i open up the permissions on the shared folder I can create folders and files from the Mac but those files and folders do not have a "Windows" owner when look at them on the server. Likewise, if I create a file or folder on the server, they appear as owned by "nobody" on the Mac and I can't edit them.

 

Does anyone know how to actually get proper user mapping working between Unix and Windows?
