Windows Speech Recognition with Windows 8.1 Mandatory Profile

Hi,

 

I have a third party speech recognition/narration package that uses the native Speech Recognition engine within Windows.

 

This Windows feature works fine with a student user who has:

 

- a local profile;

- the group policies we apply;

- the login scripts we use;

- the disk rights we have in place;

 

But, when our Mandatory Profile is put in place (which our students use), it is reported in Control Panel-->Speech Recognition that no language pack is installed. Hence, this feature doesn't work.

 

We have tried loading these features whilst logged in as our profileuser user, for whom the students' mandatory profile is its roaming profile (with the .man to .dat changed for this purpose).

 

In every other way, the profile works fine, yet testing strongly indicates it is the profile that is causing the issue.

 

Any pointers appreciated.

I assume you've already created a profile that's run the software at least once / tested speech recognition and changed that to mandatory as a test?

 

Failing that, break out procmon from sysinternals and work out what the software's trying to write to/check and why it's failing.
