RM CC4: using dpinst.exe to install Apple USB drivers (to allow photo transfer)

Hi

 

Background:

 

I have made a CC3 Package which basically opens dpinst.exe silently and installs drivers required to allow photo transfer from iphones and ipads. Doing it this way as it means no services are running in the background etc. Just the necessary drivers installed. Works fine in CC3. It installs the package by running the exe with the command /s

 

ini file is as follows:

 

[Package]

Description=Apple USB Driver

Version=1.0

EXEFile=dpinst.exe

AddCommand= /S

OS=5.WS

 

If I import this into CC4, it fails - but doesn't give me any indication of why in the tasks or eventvwr of the server or PC??

 

If I export the package and run it manually, it works..

 

I'm at a loss as to what I need to do, to get it to deploy with no intervention on CC4

 

If anyone can assist, would appreciate it.

Are you saying the import into the RMMC fails or the allocation to the clients fails?

It imports without a problem but when I allocate it to a PC it downloads, attempts install and then fails. I'm struggling to find out why it fails to make any changes.

Is it actually failing or is it being declined? I see from your ini that you only list OS=5.WS, by default this will only enable use on XP and Server 2003 (possibly Vista too) in the constraints section of the package. If you need it to install on Windows 7 you will need select the relevant OS(s) from the list so it will install.

It's XP I'm testing with for now it's failing. Can't find any log to explain why.

Ok. I picked a fresh PC and allocated. Management console shows the message above but the drivers do install as I can now access photos on an iPad.

 

Could it be because it isn't actually a program being installed? It's more a script, I suppose.

It depends on if the RMMC gets a response from the exe to say it is installed. Some exes have a switch that will actually report status or some have switches that will just reply succeeded. Drivers like this are generally a pain (as I am sure you well aware by now!)

 

Edit: Just looked at the switches, try using /SE too, to suppress the EULA. I know this is implied by /S but it is worth a try.

Ok thanks Jim. I updated the package with /q /se but no change. I'm happy to live with it the way it is as it does work. A little scrappy but it does the job!
