[sims] Students with a title in their name

Hi all, not sure if anyone can help me - I've had this error previously where a student has had a title in their name, and I think it was something to do with their parent having the same name? I never bothered to solve the error because it didn't affect much, only registers and marksheets where the student was displayed as Ms or Mr.

 

However.

 

I'm putting the new year 7s into their sets for next year and I have a student with the title of "Capt."

 

While I think this is pretty hilarious (it really is, I'm still laughing) - I don't think all the teachers will see it that way, so I feel obligated to at least try to solve it.

 

I've gone through her profile on SIMS and neither of her parents or any contacts are Captains, nor is her twin sister who doesn't have the error herself.

 

Any solutions?

This occasionally happens, there is a patch that you can run.

I find that issues with student titles are usually caused by the student being set as a contact for somebody; this can either be done in error (student has same/similar name as a contact and is chosen on the matching screen when the contact is added) or can be genuine (older sibling in school for example). Either way, the way to fix it if that is the case is to find out who the student is a contact for, then open up the contact and remove the title there. You may also be able to find the student's contact profile via the "People > Contacts" menu.

 

If it's an error, you're best removing the student as a contact and creating a new one, with a title. If it's genuine, just remove the title on the contact page.

Thanks, @LosOjos, but I've just tried running a report and no contact ever has had the title of Capt.

 

I wonder if it's a hiccup from the primary school? Their CTFs are always a bit dodgy...

Try adding a new contact with surname and you will prob get a hit on capt as title

@jasonfblair, just tried it and it only comes up with the student/applicant with the title of Capt., all other contacts with the same surname are Mr/Mrs. Thanks anyway. Edited July 18, 2014 by Jenis

Student is appearing as a contact but does not appear in the list of contacts.

Student is showing as Mr, Dr or Mrs in the blue bar at the top of the student details screen. etc.

Please follow these steps:

Focus | Person | Contact | NEW


Enter the student Surname and click Continue, this should bring them up in the Matched People browse. Select the relevant record from the Matched People list and click Open


This will take you to the contacts screen. From here, remove the title from the record


Tools | Housekeeping | Delete Unlinked Contacts


Search for the student and then delete the record


The student will no longer appear as a Contact, nor display a title


If this does not resolve the Issue please log a call with the Service Desk quoting this Issue Reference. A site specific patch will be required to resolve.


If a fault code appears when applying the solution, please log a call with the Service Desk and send in the Data for a site specific patch to be created.

It's almost a shame it was so easy to fix, my sense of humour really did appreciate a student being called Captain. Especially as our school is on the coast.

I've been working wit SIMS for 15 years, without its little niggles it wouldn't be SIMS. But my Helpdesk days finish next Tuesday lunchtime.
