KarlGoddard Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 As we’re a training school we get quite a few new members of staff over the year and I’m thinking of putting together an introduction to the ICT facilities for the new starters. I’m looking for ideas as to what needs to be in it. In no particular order here’s the list of topics I think should be in it: Username / temp password / Email address – on detachable sheet (not sure on this) Introduction to the school facilities – no. of PC’s / Laptops / IWB’s List of network drives – what they’re for / who can access them etc How to access email ICT support contacts – email / phone Map of school highlighted with ICT / IWB rooms How to book ICT / IWB rooms How to book other facilities – laptops / projectors / meeting rooms Overview of the intranet (Sharepoint) AUP That’s what I’ve come up with off the top of my head. Any additions or suggestions would be welcome
philtomo-25 Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 have been looking in to this myself recently, weve been having a huge amount of staff not knowing anything about the school email (let alone using it), moodle, where to save things etc... and things like mp3 usage/legality, but a vast majority will never read the booklets,.... Its just a case of ticking the boxes for when they say "well no one told me about that"...... phil
bossman Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 kgcs: I think that you have a very good idea and i personally would put all this onto a CD and package that up as the introduction pack i.e. nice cover with the school logo and stuff, you could also miniaturise it onto a business card cd to take it even further.
bossman Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 @philtomo-25: have you not thought of building a wiki so that the staff can browse at their own leisure and find out how they can do things once set-up it becomes a focal point for the staff and then you can champion one of them to update and keep maintained.
