Windows Media Server for internal streaming radio.

I was wondering if anybody has tried this or might have any suggestions.

Our Isa server blocks the music streaming, not because the teachers disallow it, but because it takes up too much of our bandwidth.

 

So, I'm thinking of offering an internal streaming station that is updated by the students, with the students music. (all low bitrate audio that isn't going to impact our network speed.)

 

Any suggestions?

It's fully possible to do - it being legal is a different thing.

 

As long as the music is produced by students, I don't think there's an issue.

 

there's also http://audio.lgfl.org.uk which has some really nice pieces of work on which are free to use on site.

 

I've had no problems with WMS - I put it on 1ghz, 512mb PC which also runs SQL2k5 Express and I had 44 connections go at once with no problems to a directory stream.

 

 

The biggest thing I initially wanted it for was to act as a relay server - you can set it to connect to supported radio stations - BBC Radio 1 & 2 are for definate and then get staff/students to connect to your server instead of theirs - just 1 link out of college then...
