Running out of IP addresses

Afternoon!

 

A few of our primary schools have been growing pretty quick recently and new devices are joining the network. The problem we have is that a few of them are starting to run out of IP addresses. We are not dangerously low, but we are another new batch of laptops/iPads away from only having a few left! The router and L3 switch is controlled by county right? Along with the CLEO network edge box. We have never had to touch any of the core network equipment as county handle it. Anyone any experience with asking them about changing the IP range or VLANing the network?

I ran into this problem in my secondary school, speaking to our provider they offered some more address but not in a concurrent range. I ended up setting up pfsense on a cheap hp micro server with two nics, and setup nat, i am now able to use the 172.16.x.x range on my internal network but still access our provider via a 10.0 range. also no have better logging of what is going in and out from the network.

Have had new ranges assigned by lea's at a few schools. As long as you document and plan it's not such a hassle, I would ask them. I wouldn't want to rig something up to work around it myself, not if I can just move to a bigger range.
