[ipad] Opening up an iPad

Just been given the task of opening up an iPad as the screen isn't working and suspect it could be the cable inside.... this could all go very wrong! All I have at home is a Hot Air Gun which reaches a minimum of 140 degrees and I normally use it on things like cars and I've been told to bring that in. I've done that on an iPad before but it was my own personal one a long while back and I really did damage the thing getting into it, it still worked mind though I bent and dented all the outside.

 

Ugh not looking forward to this why they just can't send the thing off is beyond me we've only had the things for a year as well.... Apple = Quality my a**

Same as most modern moulded hardware these days. Heatgun is ideal, hairdryer won't get hot enough and you'll picking bits of glass out your hand/desk/chairs as you price it off barely melted glue. You need to go damnhot. Don't worry too much about the components, make sure you have a funnel type adapter (so you have a thinner strip of hot air from the gun) and just stick to the edges, the black borders. The worst you'll do to any of the components inside is slightly reflow the solder which will probably do more good than harm. SPecialist fitters have devices which heat up just the edges, all at the same time.
