edutech4schools Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Just playing with WDS and installed OK. I have a boot image in the boot image folder. As I understand it this boots to the GUI so you can deploy images etc. Is this boot image OS dependent? I used the Server 2008r2\sources folder when asked for an install image but will be mainly wanting to capture and deploy Windows 7.
sted Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 yes you can use any boot image to deploy any os but i genererally use the newest clisnt os version but server will work fine 1
Norphy Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 As long as the boot image is as new or newer than the OS that you're trying to deploy, that's fine. You will have trouble deploying Windows 8 with a Windows 2008 image for example. 2
crc-ict Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 Even (as I found out) Windows 8.1 won't deploy with the Windows 8 boot image 1
Duke5A Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 Even (as I found out) Windows 8.1 won't deploy with the Windows 8 boot image I've observed this as well; 2012R2 will do the same thing. If you try and deploy images at a level under that of an 8.1/2012R2 boot it'll error out in the specialization phase. 1
