Joomla and DDA

Nearly ready to go live with our site using the excellent Edugeek package.

 

Today someone trying to sell me their CMS system said that joomla is not DDA Compliant and they e-mailed me the following statement

"Current situation

While we are committed to accessibility, we are aware, and regret, that our website does not comply with many WCAG/508 requirements, nor does it currently validate with XHTML 1.0 Transitional. The site is Joomla! based, and as such, will be compliant when Joomla! meets requirements.

I have looked through the forums about DDA . Should I be concerned or does the Edugeek Template solve some of the issues.

This was something I used to be interested in but it's sort of fallen by the wayside... However if you want to find out ways to improve the accessibility of your site then I'd strongly recommend you look for a book called "Web Standards Solutions - The Markup and Style Handbook".. it has a lot of practical ways to improve the design and explains the issues of accessibility in a much more sensible and easy to read format than many of the legal requirements red tape you can find out there.

 

There's bound to be someone who is working on an accessible template system for Joomla though so I'd check the forums and docs there first.
