Printer Defaults Changing

Hi all

 

We have a few computers here that wish to have a different default printer than our bog standard "staff photocopier"

 

It's some memebers of the admin team, and they would like to print to the admin photocopier.

 

They all inherited a standard "Staff" GPO, which includes the staff photocopier as default, and doesnt include the admin photocopier at all), is there a way to over ride this? We had something in place (not by me) a few months back but it stopped working (wasn't mapping drives correctly, i wasn't sure why so i moved them back) and we never got to the bottom of it (it involved creating a seperate GPO, but it still only inherits after the enforced Staff GPO, but obviously at SOME point this worked)

 

Any ideas?

Could you give more detail? Default printer is a user setting so it should stay set to whatever the users selects and survive reboots.

What detail are you looking for? The default always seems to reset to the staff photocopier (or local, but the admin photocopier is not local) which isn't good for the Admin Staff.

If the admin staff are in there own OU, it would be tricky to get a separate printer policy to there machine without sliting up the users in the ou. Could you not add the admin printer to the existing printer policy, that way they will have both printers listed and all they will need to do is select the correct one they want to print too?

Sometimes i have resorted to adding this to the local logon script:

cscript c:\windows\system32\prnmngr.vbs -t -p "Whatever Printer You Want Default"
