Probably!

Everything is working fine apart from one thing - users are still being prompted to restart their machine to install updates and then subjects them to a 15 minute count down (which eventually they cant cancel)

Now I thought that the last entry below disabled this? but it doesn't seem to be working! Is there any where else I need to set to stop this?

Have scheduled Windows updates to install at a specific time each day through GP and have these policies enabled\disabled in GPM are -

Computer Config\ Admin Temp \ Windows Components \ Windows Updates

- Configure Automatic Updates - Enabled (Auto Download and schedule the install)

- Specify Intranet Microsoft update service location - Enabled

- Allow non administrators to receive update notifications - Disabled

- No auto restart with logged on users for scheduled automatic updates installations

many thanks in advance

That is odd; I have the exact same policy and mine works as expected. Find an afflicted machine and use RSOP to determine whether or not it is in fact receiving the policy settings you have defined. Who knows, if might be filtered or another policy higher up can be conflicting. You can even use the Group Policy Modeling Wizard on the computer OU in GPM.
